The Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawaii

The Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawaii is an institution dedicated to providing both state of the art training for students and first class clinical care for patients. The College combines a modern integration of Oriental and Western medical courses with thorough clinical training. Students learn not only to relieve symptoms, but help to bring patients into a mind/body balance that aids in the restoration of health.

The TCMCH program is intensive, and it is rigorous. The dedicated Teachers provided me with a strong foundation in Chinese herbal medicine together with acupuncture, dietary therapy, and energy healing. I was taught the complementary clinical methods, theories, and historical and philosophical roots of both Oriental and Western Medicine. My training enables me to provide suggestions for more natural, less invasive courses of treatment, which can either work with or replace western medical care for conditions ranging from arthritis and high blood pressure to cancer and HIV. Such care can be instrumental in reducing dependence on western pharmaceuticals - a good way to lessen the incidence of undesirable side effects of medicine.

All facets of Oriental Medicine are taught in the core program, and that program is supplemented with electives that range from Japanese Acupuncture to Healing Touch and Indigenous Medicine. My clinical experience spanned four years, beginning with simple observation and progressing toward supervised and then independent treatment in the Student Clinic. As our patient responsibilities increase, student interns develop clinical skills and judgment. TCMCH graduates are fully prepared to approach the full range of health concerns and to interact effectively with our Western medical colleagues.
